Brief introduction to the Guangxi Institute of Botany(GXIB)

Guangxi Institute of Botany (GXIB), founded in 1935, is dual-headed by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region People's Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). GXIB comprises five departments, The Research Center of Plant Resources and Phytogeography, The Research Center of Plant Ecology and Environment, The Research Center of Natural Product Chemistry, The Research and Development Center of Characteristic Economic Plants and the Guilin Botanical Garden. Total number of staff 209 people, with 20 researchers, more than 40 associate researchers , and 22 staff members with Ph.D. Degrees. The Guangxi Herbarium (IBK), located at the GXIB, is one of the top ten Chinese national herbariums. Its botanical collection has more than 400, 000 specimens. The Guilin Botanical Garden founded in 1958, covers 73 hectares, and has more than 4,000 species of plants, which have been collected and are now protected. Guihaia, which was founded by the GXIB, is one of several very important academic journals in the field of botany.
