Dr. Chen Bin from Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, CAS, was invited to make scientific activities in GCCC & Guilin Botanical Garden

In 1 June 2017, Dr. Chen Bin, the Principal of Chinese Field Herbarium (CFH) in Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, was invited to come to the Guilin Botanic Garden and Gesneriad Conservation Centre of China (GCCC) for academic communications for four days. He delivered lectures for the local staff and postgraduates on the GPS technique using in the field investigation and species introduction.
Dr. Chen Bin talked in details about how to use the GPS effectively to record important and detailed information during the field investigations and while introduce new species, which is very significant and practical for the introduction and conservation of endangered Chinese Gesneriads in Guilin Botanic Garden and GCCC. Using related software to design the investigation route and unloaded it into the mobile phones before departure can help make the field works more feasible and efficient. Besides, combining the digital camera and the GPS tracking plotter simplifies the proceed of recording the actual route and geographic data in the field and thus, saving time for collecting specimens and photos outdoors while gathering and analyzing photos and GPS data in batch processing indoors. To help the audients effectively learn the usage of the related software, Dr. Chen demonstrated the whole process several times in the public garden, the GCCC Glass House and Exhibition Garden.

Together with other two GCCC members, Fu Long-Fei and Pan Bo, Dr. Chen also investigated the karst landform and the plant biodiversity in the neighbouring regions, especially focusing on the limestone region where Primulina yangshuoensis Y.G. Wei & Fang Wen, P. cordata Mich. Möller & A. Weber, P. glandulosa var. yangshuoensis (F. Wen, Yue Wang & Q.X. Zhang) Mich. Möller & A. Weber and Petrocodon coriaceifolius (Y.G.Wei) Y.G.Wei & Mich.Möller distributed centralized. In the end, Dr. Chen expressed the wish of taking further collaboration with GCCC in multiple related research fields.
